This past weekend, Khaden Pettingill took a group of boys out on adventure.
There were 4 summiteers in their party total: Khaden (age 24), his good friend, (age 21), and a good family friend’s two boys, (ages 11 & 9). They all hiked to Queen’s Mountain, near Boundary County, Idaho. It’s a pretty amazing summit to stand on because in addition to the Spud State, you can also see Canada and Montana from that peak!
Immediately following their climb
– on Saturday, July 13, 2019 –Khaden Pettingill again unfurled his banner, this time on social media.
He proclaimed:
Stop sexual shaming culture in religious communities and organizations!
Up here on one of the most far north peaks in the main land USA,
just 8 miles from the Canadian border in Northern Idaho.
I’m facing south hoping the roar reaches over the mountains
to all who needs to hear-
unfurling this banner atop of Queen’s Peak
to raise awareness to all!
Not only are children shamed for their struggles,
but even young adults, and women,
are plagued with the horrors of policies
that enable abuse to occur and shaming to be normalized.
We live in a world where most people still subscribe to the belief
that shame is a good tool for keeping people in line.
Not only is this wrong, but it’s dangerous.
Shame is highly correlated with addiction, violence,
aggression, depression, eating disorders, and bullying.

We here at Protect Every Child applaud Khaden’s stand,
and are glad that two young boys were able to witness
Khaden’s example of a real man standing up in defense of others.
